Singin' In The Rain/ Psycho

I'm really lucky to be in the film, sound video course, as this course allows me to watch good films. And for the past few weeks, my kind teacher has been screening some great films to us lucky students. And it's really fun to watch good films with all my movies-loving classmates! We'll always analyze the films. Not bad. So, here i am, promoting 2 of them.

First, I wanna say these films are super super old films. :)

First up,

Singin' in the rain.
http://blogwaybaby.com/Singin%27%20In%20The%20Rain%20Poster.jpg

It's really a classic film, classic musical I must say. A very bright film, comedy musical. Don't get the title wrong, the film is not about everybody singing in the rain. But what this film has is everything. Great soundtrack. GREAT dance moves. A predictable yet cheerful film. It's a different type of musical then the new musicals you see on screen. What I mean different, is that the dance is super old school, songs are super old school, but the plot, the screenplay and the script is truly fabulous. And don't underestimate old school.... it's really a wonderful film.

Eh.. btw.. this film is better than high school musical a million times. Seriously.

Imdb rating: 8.4/10
(Imdb top 250 #78)
Awards: Nominated for 2 Oscars. Another 3 wins & 7 nominations

And also, I always use imdb as a guide. Truth is, it's not always about the rating. A million people might think a particular film sucks, but you might feel that the same film is the best film you'll ever watch. It's all about how you interpret the film. It's really how you connect with the movie...

So next up...

Psycho.

Considered one of the best Hitchcock's film.
I mean, this film is, for me, one of the best thrillers of ALL time. No kidding. You guys might remember this particular FAMOUS scene. The bathroom scene.
http://img.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2008/05_01/psychoREX0105_468x461.jpg
This bathroom scene is one of the most famous scene, and has been referenced by many movies, many advertisements and clips. It's the scene where a woman bathes, and there's a really loud and scary background music, then someone opens the curtain...

Ring a bell?

This film has a super great twist to it, a scary twist, i mean. The motifs used in the film is ingenious, especially the stuffed crows in the norman bates hotel. I don't wanna spoil, so watch it yourself.. ya? Film is really old, 1960 film.

Imdb rating: 8.7/10
(Imdb top 250 #23)
Awards: Nominated for 4 Oscars. Another 5 wins & 3 nominations

This is undisputed a superb movie. Hope you guys don't miss it. And btw it's in black and white, but it's still superb. Seriously.

So i'll end it off here.

"Every great magic trick consists of three parts or acts. The first part is called "The Pledge". The magician shows you something ordinary: a deck of cards, a bird or a man. He shows you this object. Perhaps he asks you to inspect it to see if it is indeed real, unaltered, normal. But of course... it probably isn't. The second act is called "The Turn". The magician takes the ordinary something and makes it do something extraordinary. Now you're looking for the secret... but you won't find it, because of course you're not really looking. You don't really want to know. You want to be fooled. But you wouldn't clap yet. Because making something disappear isn't enough; you have to bring it back. That's why every magic trick has a third act, the hardest part, the part we call "The Prestige"."

I'll be Missing You

To say the truth, I've always been a fan of rap. NOT the new rappers like lil' Wayne they all. What i like is old school, meaningless rap. I believe through rapping, you can also convey your music and meaning to your audience. Like Black Eyed Peas' " Where is the Love?" Not the lame and meaningless and typical rap songs nowadays. I don't mean all, but MOST.

I listened to a P. Diddy song today, and i find it really meaningful. It's called " I'll be missing You", a tribute song to the Notorious B.I.G. It used the " Every Breathe You Take" medley by The Police.

I'll be Missing You

That's what i call a good rap and good collaboration.

Leon " The Proffesional "

To say the truth.. I'm a little disillusioned about blogging. Was tempted to shut it down a few times. But... I've blogged too long to shut it down. 1 year plus eh. Not bad. I feel that my only reason for blogging is to introduce some good films and music. I hate blogging about my life. Reason's simple. My life ain't special. I just go to school everyday like an ordinary student. And i don't like posting photos of myself and people. Some people say it's dull if there's no photos. I beg to differ. For me, a blog is used to tell people about your thoughts, and not become a 'picture website'. So yeah.. that's about it.

Moving on...

LEON " THE PROFESSIONAL "

Very good film. The film is really old-fashioned, but is still a masterpiece.

Jean Reno portrays Leon, the hitman, very well. Jean Reno shows the inner- conflict in Leon very well. The scene where he thinks of killing Mathilda proves that. But over time, Leon grows to adore Mathilda, and sets out to protect her. Jean Reno portrays that very well too. Film has a very good twist too, a little expected, but still a good twist.

Natalie Portman plays the 12 year old Mathilda really well too. She plays a weak but very strong-minded girl, who is bent on revenge. You could see the viciousness in her eyes when she talks about revenge. I love actors and actresses who play the movie with their eyes. It helps in communicating with the audience, and can portray their thoughts easily.

Well, Gary Oldman plays the antagonist of the film. I first noticed about his quality acting in Batman Begins and Dark Knight, where he plays the chief police helping out Batman. This time, Gary Oldman plays the evil guy. He gives the character a feel of evil, eccentricness, cleverness, and unstableness. Notice how he talks in the film, gives the audience that he is mentally unstable, and can shoot anyone recklessly anytime. Very good portrayal.

And the last scene is really epic, yet realistic. Watch for yourself. Film likes to use the "over the shoulder" shot during conversations.

So yeah.. a very nice movie witha good plot, good acting and good directing.

Awards: 2 wins & 8 nominations
Imdb rating: 8.6/ 10 ( Not bad eh)
Rated #34 in Imdb top 250 films.

So.. hope you guys check out the movie sometime. :)
