American Beauty
I wanna update a little bit about my life, which i don't really enjoy. To cut it short, i love poly life now. I have a few bunch of wild classmates, classes are interesting, and food there is good. Not spectacular food, but very very edible, unlike sec schl food. Good thing.
So yeah.. I'm very satisfied with life right now.
So.. about this movie" American Beauty"
It's a very beautiful story. A little touching, has some beautiful meaning to it. It's a little R-RATED film, i must say.. but who gives a shit these few days right? And again, Kevin Spacey is great in his role. He won an oscar for his role. Exceptional. Film is a little dark, and very psychological. Great screenplay.. although screenwriters don't get much credit due nowadays. To sum it up... one of the best films in the 1990s for me.
Plot: Lester and Carolyn Burnham are on the outside, a perfect husband and wife, in a perfect house, in a perfect neighborhood. But inside, Lester is slipping deeper and deeper into a hopeless depression. He finally snaps when he becomes infatuated with one of his daughter's friends. Meanwhile, his daughter Jane is developing a happy friendship with a shy boy-next-door named Ricky, who lives with a homophobic father. ( copied from imdb)
Awards( this is impressive) : Won 5 Oscars. Another 83 wins & 74 nominations
Wins more than nominations. Expect a mind- blasting film.

The Usual Suspects

Cover of 'The Usual Suspects"
For me.. it's one word: Brilliant.
I mean.. everything about the movie is great. The actors, especially Kevin Spacey and Stephen Baldwin, were superb. The plot is intriguing, and is unexpected. It has a great twist to the story. The art direction of the film is also great. It's really one of the best detective films i've ever seen. The movie is really intense, and always keeps us guessing who actually is "Keyser Soze"? And also, Gabriel Bryne is really convincing as the reluctant ex-cop.. you could see the dilenma in his actions and eyes.
Plot: Following a truck hijack in New York, five conmen are arrested and brought together for questioning. As none of them is guilty, they plan a revenge operation against the police. The operation goes well, but then the influence of a legendary mastermind criminal called Keyser Söze is felt. It becomes clear that each one of them has wronged Söze at some point and must pay back now. The payback job leaves 27 men dead in a boat explosion, but the real question arises now: Who actually is Keyser Söze?
Oh my.. Kevin Spacey is such a quality actor. He plays the movie with his eyes, and can really play bad guys well as he can naturally speak in such a cold-blooded tone.
Left is Gabriel Bryne, portraying Keaton. Also wonderful.
Pete Postlethwaite plays Kobayashi, a Japanese lawyer representing Keyser Soze. He has a really scary and intense glare.
Lastly, Chazz Palminteri, playing Dave Kujan, lead detective in the case.
Awards: Won 2 Oscars. Another 22 wins & 7 nominations
Imdb rating: 8.7 ( IMDB TOP 250 #22)
So hope you guys can watch it if you can.

Once
It's really not my style to blog twice a day. So this is a first.
Saw American Idol today, and Kris Allen's performance of"Falling Slowly" reminded me of the beautiful movie i saw in taiwan. It's the soundtrack of "ONCE".
Another music film to add. The film is really simple, not a big-budget blockbuster or whatever. But what made the film so great is the the simplicity and the very-convincing acting. You could see the spark between the two main characters, which made it so convincing. Not to forget that the music in the movie is superb.
PLOT:
An (unnamed) Guy is a Dublin guitarist/singer-songwriter who makes a living by fixing vacuum cleaners in his Dad's Hoover repair shop by day, and singing and playing for money on the Dublin streets by night. An (unnamed) Girl is a Czech who plays piano when she gets a chance, and does odd jobs by day and takes care of her mom and her daughter by night. Guy meets Girl, and they get to know each other as the Girl helps the Guy to put together a demo disc that he can take to London in hope of landing a music contract. During the same several day period, the Guy and the Girl work through their past loves, and reveal their budding love for one another, through their songs
Awards: Won Oscar. Another 14 wins & 18 nominations
Imdb rating:8.1
So hope you guys will watch it if you have a chance. :)

Moulin Rouge
This will come down to one of the best musical film ever!
MOULIN ROUGE
I myself have been a huge fan of musical films already... but moulin rouge is unlike anything i've ever seen. The art direction of the film is GREAT, as i love how they film the sequences of the movie. Plot is a little predictable, but still.. wonderful film in my opinion.
PLOT:
In 1900, Christian, an impoverished writer who has come from England the year before, types his story: he arrived in Montmartre and fell in with Toulouse-Lautrec and Bohemians who believe in freedom, truth, beauty, and love. They want to sell a show to the Moulin Rouge, and its impresario wants a backer so he can build a proper theatre. He's plying a duke, who wants exclusive access to the favors of Satine, the Moulin Rouge's consumptive star. She wants to be a proper actress, so the duke's offer is fine - except that she and Christian fall in love. Can Satine keep the duke at bay without losing his patronage, will he discover the lovers and kill Christian, and can love trump jealousy?
One more thing... this musical covers a lot of music hits man!
Example:
1. Smells like teen spirit- Nirvana
2. All you need is love- Beatles
3. Ain't no moutain high enough- (i think is diana ross)
So.. it's a mix of the music hits and some of moulin rouge's own songs like ' lady marmalade' .
Nicole Kidman, playing Satine.
Ewan McGregor, playing Christian, the talented writer. And FYI, He sings really well in the film. I'm shocked! And i'm impressed by his acting though.
Awards: Won 2 Oscars. Another 65 wins & 83 nominations ( Not bad eh?)
Imdb rating: 7.7
So i hope you guys can watch it... you won't regret it.

Bored and everything
Life is looking down for me right now.
It's all boring.. staying at home. And even if i do want to go out, i'm like short of cash.
Darn.
Had to wake up early in the morning for soccer today. I know that i had to work out... but didn't really play much as there were really a lot of teams. So my morning was wasted.
On a brighter perspective, i actually bought new specs. Black rimmed plastic specs, similar to my sec 1 specs.
Well... i sincerely wanted to post about taiwan, but i have 600 photos in my camera, and another 500 in my bro's camera. Please do undertsand. I'm kinda having not much patience nowadays.
But i can say that, taiwan has been a wonderful trip. I've seen sceneries that can't be found in singapore, weather that is as cold as 2 degress celcius, tribe dances which actually seems nice to me... etc. Most importantly, the people there are very polite and well-mannered. Will touch up on that soon.
I leant something in taiwan. I found out that singaporeans take dusbins for granted. Do you know that dusbins and trash cans are very scarce in taiwan? But look at the streets there.. it's so clean! And the public toilets are as clean as hotel toilets. This reflects on singaporeans' bad habits. They don't take dusbins seriously, and expect sweepers to do their job to keep singapore clean. Some even have the fucking cheek to say that they are giving singapore sweepers something to do. I had to look for dusbin for 20 mins at taiwan just to split out my chewing gum there... but in singapore, dusbins are everywhere, but litter are also everywhere.
I hope singaporeans do something about it. And also maintain the toilets clean.. singaporeans don't clean up after they use the toilet. They don't take the initiative to wipe the toilet bowl clean after they " miss the target". Singaporeans just heck care, and let the next user do the cleaning.
When i say Singaporeans, i mean MOST singaporeans, not all :)
So that's something i'd like to share during my trip to taiwan. :)
